Samsung Vibrant Review

Well folks, it's here. The T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant is the to begin the four Samsung Galaxy S cellphone going to US shelves, and the manufacturer's first Android Super phone. The be noticeable feature of the Vibrant is its gorgeous 4-inch Super AMOLED display. Accompanying the display, the Vibrant sports a 5-megapixel camera with 720p HD video recording, a 1GHz Hummingbird processor using a GPU beats the hell out of any smartphone GPU today, a 6 axis motion sensor, along with a nifty undertake the TV-out method that's unseen on many smartphones today. How does the Vibrant assemble to the competition? Will that screen send others running?

Design
In the the Samsung Galaxy S series models, we'd have got to say the Samsung Vibrant is the sleekest and sexiest among the bunch. The look is pretty familiar, but the mixture of the slim profile, clean design, and rounded edges is actually pleasing to the eye. Also, at 4.82 inches tall by 2.54 inches wide by 0.39 inch thick and 4.16 ounces, the Vibrant tends to make a nice travel companion, slipping easily right into a jean pocket and feeling lightweight in the hand. In spite of this, the handset feels plasticky and slick. We wouldn't say it's fragile, but it definitely resulted in a lot to be desired, especially in comparison with the solid and durable Nexus one mobile.

Display
The Vibrant's stunning 4-inch Super AMOLED display shows a wonderful sense of depth when displaying HD video content and hi-res images. If we snapped a graphic of a flower pot inside of a park, the colors literally popped off the display, and the high definition-video we recorded in Times Square looked incredibly smooth during playback. The iPhone 4's display may be small compared to generous screen estate of the Vibrant, but Apple's device includes a higher resolution (960 x640 pixels vs 800 x480). We also remarked that when placed near to the other person, the Vibrant seems to have a faint bluish tint as compared to the iPhone 4; the flower pot image had better accurate colors on the iPhone 4, and web sites with the same images appeared slightly brighter on the iPhone 4 in addition.

Keyboard
The Vibrant features a custom gray keyboard with white letters on the static black background. We immediately disabled the haptic feedback, which seemed to slow the phone down. Once deterred, the large display caused it to be comfortable to type accurately and quickly. Fed up with tapping? The Vibrant also features a Swype keyboard, the spot where you draw a path between letters for text entry. Swype includes a learning curve, but it works well when you finally get the practice it. You want there was clearly a quicker approach to switch between keyboards, when your only option is to change it in settings.

Performance
Speakerphone quality was virtually whatever we expected; there was clearly a small hollowness to the calls, but it was still being clear enough and loud enough to maintain conversations. We paired the Vibrant to the Logitech Mobile Traveller Bluetooth headset and the Motorola S9 Bluetooth Active Headphones quickly and easily, for the time being, there's no support for voice dialing over Bluetooth. This feature will probably be added with Android 2.2.
