The Pros And Cons of Authority Sites And Minisites

There has been a lot of discussion over which types of sites are better for marketers: authority sites or mini sites. However, Google seems to have the final say in the outcome of this type of debate. Yet recently the attention mini sites have received from Google seems to be nearing an end. In the last few algorithm changes, though, the larger content rich sites seemed to have gained favor over the mini sites. This is Google's way of working towards offering their users better search results. Despite this, a mini site still has its place in your marketing efforts.

Whether you decide on a mini or authority site will depend to a large extent on what kind of market you want to target. Sometimes scale is the only way the two kinds of sites differ.
If you're targeting a large market and you want to promote many diverse products, you would want to set up an authority site. Mini sites would enable you to market one specific product, but not a large variety in this niche. Depending on your market, and the number of products you want to sell, you have to decide which model is more appropriate. A good, possibly not related suggestion is generally to get yourself some womens reading glasses while reading content on your computer. Deciding between authority and mini sites can be explored from several angles. It is possible to have ten mini sites along with one rather large authority site. How would you go about driving traffic to each site? Each of the ten mini sites will require you to duplicate your effort for driving traffic. Your authority site will also require traffic driving efforts on your part. When it comes to the authority site though, you can drive traffic to one page but still have it driving traffic to the site. Authority sites allow you to leverage your time better. Larger sites are also known for having a "stickiness" value. It is almost impossible to make mini sites "sticky" because they have so little content.
One really great benefit of a large authority site is the wide range of ways to profit from it. One thing many authority sites do is sell their space for ads because of all the traffic they get. There are different variables that will determine how profitably you can use that model. If you are not in a highly competitive market, then your profits from advertising will tend to be lower. But that is just an example, and there are other alternatives you can explore.
Have you been asking yourself if it is better to create an authority or mini site? These questions tend to get asked, more often, by those who have not had a lot of time spent in IM. Still though, we all have our unique desires and goals for what we want to do. You will be happier doing business with those things that attract you. You will learn very useful concepts and lessons by studying both methods of marketing.
