Microsoft launched Silverlight in its initial form in 2007, but is still under development today with version 5 currently released as a release candidate. Silverlight is Microsoft's offering of a framework for software development allowing the creation of rich internet applications which include rich media functionality. These include streaming media, rich graphics and animation. It is, however, positioned as a natural choice for business applications as developers can leverage most of the powerful .NET framework, and write code once in order to deliver a cross platform application.
Silverlight is often chosen as a platform by many of our clients. Offering Silverlight gives the NeuTecs team the ability to create rich applications that offer all the functionality of desktop based applications, but over the web. The advanced streaming media capabilities of Silverlight, allow for very advanced interfaces incorporating rich media. Silverlight applications allow the developer to follow the latest MVVM programming design pattern, ensuring what is called a 'separation of concerns', i.e. the separation and differentiation of the presentation section and data handling. The separation allows for the different individuals on a project to concetrate on their strneghts. The designers can get on and design, and the developers can build all the functionality in terms of data handling.
Silverlight applications can be hosted on Microsoft Web servers and also on the cloud. Microsoft have invested heavily in their cloud offering, called Azure, and matching up Silverlight with the cloud offers highly available and scalable rich internet applications.
NeuTecs use Sliverlight and other advanced Microsoft technologies to provide advanced software development in the UK.
