A recently released survey completed by SSL (Salary Services Limited) has disclosed a list of software skills that are in high demand in the last quarter of this year. According to a ComputerWeekly.com report, the market demand for freelance plus permanent software jobs have plunged in the public segment. On the other hand, private software companies, retail businesses in addition to consultancy firms are registering a high demand in software work. Long term software positions with SQL talents tracked the highest rise in job needs.
Changing job scenarios in the public and private sectors
As per the survey, permanent software jobs reported an improvement of one percent since last year whereas freelance positions saw an upturn of 4.7%. The public sector requirement for permanent IT jobs fell by approximately 40.6% since the third quarter last year. Freelance IT positions in the public sector also experienced a large loss of 42.2%. The job market for software professionals in the private sector is far more exciting. While software companies and also consultancy agencies showed a sharp growth of 18.8% for permanent positions, freelance work opportunities observed a raise of 23.9%.
While only about three hundred freelance positions were advertised by the public sector in the third quarter while the retail sector achieved new levels of demand, capturing a 14% rise in retail software jobs. Freelance opportunities in the retail IT market place experienced another sharp rise in job demand after showing a 24.4% growth. Though the public sector captured a depressing demand in permanent opportunities after marketing a little above 600 jobs. Wages for IT industry experts have witnessed an increase of 1.9% in the third quarter since last year also.
Highest recorded jobs in the third quarter
In the third quarter of this year, more than twenty thousand work opportunities were advertised for SQL; showing a rise of 9.7% since the same quarter last year. C programming opportunities were second in the list. Registering a slight increase of 0.6% since last year, the number of C programming jobs totaled a little greater than fifteen thousand. The benefits of taking up java classes were unmistakably apparent in the statistics. Software positions that mandated Java skills numbered over 8,500 revealing an increase of 21% since last year's third quarter. Jobs focused on JavaScript reported an increase of 22.7% with well over 6,500 jobs available. More than 12,700 jobs were advertised for C# programming capturing an increase of 12.5%.
.Net jobs had openings for over 11,500 trained software personnel. HTML job demands also increased by 18.2% with well over 6,200 jobs advertised. Soon after going through intense training in linux training courses, more than 5,300 Linux professionals were in demand after observing an increase of 5.3% in Linux jobs. SQL Server professionals saw about 8,500 jobs being created, an increase of 1.3% from last year. ASP had approximately 7,900 jobs after the job demand increased by 1.5% since 2010. Agile development has seen the greatest improvement in job demand to date. With a enormous 75% rise in the third quarter of this year from last year, the numbers totaled 5,767.
